What about multiple motors?
To this, we would state: if you couldn’t get it right with one motor, what leads you believe you’ll have more success with two or more?
Why do you use a DC motor?
3-phase, synchronous motors are no longer in mass production in fractional horsepower sizes (i.e. 10-50 watts).
These motors have been supplanted by brushless DC motors with electronic control. The motor passes positioning information back to the controller (via either Hall sensors or encoders) and the motor adjusts current delivery accordingly.
You’ve moved away from battery power. Why?
Our new generation controllers respond well to simple, linear DC supplies.
What about variable pitch control?
Early on, we received inquiries about variable speed control by customers who wanted to correct for off pitch recordings. While this is mainly a concern of those rare individuals possessing absolute, perfect pitch, we still provide this functionality.
What’s the big deal about motor controllers and such precise speed control?
Small variations that are unmeasurable by typical wow and flutter measurement instrumentation can have a dramatic effect on the musical presentation. In these shorter time domains, phase coherence in the upper frequencies is very fragile and errors are perceived as a “dirty” or “hashy” treble. This is a result of intermodulation distortion. When you hear rock solid speed control, you’ll experience “sweeter” and yet more extended highs, and harmonically rich sounding double basses and cellos.
